MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard Anthropic introduced in 2024. Out of the box, ChatGPT and Claude work with their training knowledge, a simple web search and the files you upload. They have no access to lead databases, LinkedIn profiles, your CRM or a tool that publishes posts.

An MCP server closes exactly that gap. It gives the AI assistant new tools, such as “find leads”, “add a contact to the CRM” or “publish a LinkedIn post”, and access to the data and tools behind them. The AI decides in the chat when it needs which tool. ChatGPT calls these extensions plugins, Claude calls them connectors. The same MCP server works with both.
